Meet the Antagonist
Feared by all who dared cross its path, Tuutaeporoporo is the monstrous Taniwha (guardian or creature in Māori mythology) born from incantations and raised to protect, but twisted into a force of chaos. This formidable creature lurked in the depths of the Whanganui River, devouring anyone who ventured too close. Its immense strength and terrifying presence made it a symbol of untamed nature, a threat to the peace and balance of Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi. Tuutaeporoporo’s reign of terror is only matched by the courage it took to confront it—an embodiment of chaos that had to be subdued to restore harmony.
The Chant of Victory
Te Ihonga defeats the Taniwha ‘Tuutaeporoporo’ with the magical knives Tai Timu and Tai Paroa. This chant, celebrating his escape, unites the iwi—Ngaa Rauru, Whanganui, and Ngaati Apa.
